The Injury and Background Details

Our personal injury client, G.L., a 42 year-old carpenter, was riding his motorcycle on a major street in the suburbs during daylight when the defendant made a sudden left turn on a green light directly in front of him. G.L. had to “lay down” his motorcycle on the pavement to avoid crashing into the Defendant’s vehicle. G.L. slid 20-30 feet before coming to a rest.

He suffered road rash, multiple blunt trauma, and a punctured lung as a result. He was treated at the scene by the local fire department and taken to the hospital where he stayed for three days. In the hospital, G.L. complained of continued left-sided chest and knee pain. After being discharged, he followed up with an orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist to rehabilitate his knee. After a few months, G.L. was pretty much back to normal.

Prior to the accident, G.L. was self-employed earning $30,000 – $40,000 a year. Through his medical records, we proved that he missed 14 weeks of work because of his injuries. Things such as working out, spending leisure time with his wife and family, jogging, sleeping—things the law considers as “loss of normal life”—were also affected by his injuries.

The Case Results

Following a brief negotiation with the Defendant’s insurance company, we were able to resolve G.L.’s personal injury claim for policy limits, of $100,000.00, without having to file a lawsuit.
